What is a Facebook ad mockup?

A Facebook ad mockup is a preview of how an ad will look inside the feed, built from your own image and copy. Agencies use mockups to get client sign-off, and in-house teams use them to check copy length and cropping before an ad goes live. This generator draws the Facebook feed, Instagram feed and Instagram Story layouts in your browser and lets you download each one as an image.

Why It Matters

Ads Manager does show a preview, but only once you have an ad account, a campaign and a page set up, and it's hard to share. A mockup lets you test the creative earlier: is the headline readable, does the hook sit above "See more", does the product survive a 9:16 crop? For exact placement sizes, check the Facebook ad sizes cheat sheet. If you need a design to start from, the free ad template library has thousands of Canva layouts.

Frequently asked questions

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. Your browser reads the image and draws the mockup on your own device. Nothing is sent to HookAds or anyone else.

What sizes should my ad image be?

Square (1:1) or portrait (4:5) for the Facebook and Instagram feed, and vertical (9:16) for Stories and Reels. The Facebook ad sizes cheat sheet lists the exact pixel sizes and safe zones for each placement.

How much primary text shows before "See more"?

Meta recommends keeping primary text to about 125 characters, and longer text gets cut off with "See more" in the feed. The mockup trims the text the same way, so you can see what people read before they tap.

Can I make an Instagram ad mockup too?

Yes. Switch the placement to Instagram feed or Instagram Story and the same image and copy are redrawn in the Instagram layout.

Does this look exactly like the real ad?

Close, but not pixel-identical. Meta changes its layouts often, and they differ by device. Use the mockup for approvals and copy checks, and the Ads Manager preview as the final check before you publish.
