Advantage+ creative auto-edits your ad at delivery time, and you can turn off any piece of it
Advantage+ Creative is a set of Meta AI enhancements applied to a single ad you've already built: auto-cropping to fit each placement, generating a background for a product image, overlaying text, translating copy, or adding a floating CTA sticker. Meta tests enhanced versions against your original and shows whichever performs better. Every enhancement can be switched on or off individually, at the ad level, the account level, or the catalog level for Shopping ads.
Below is the current full list of enhancements from Meta's own documentation, with what each one does, when advertisers keep it on, and which ones people turn off most often and why.
What Advantage+ creative actually does
Dynamic Creative mixes combinations of multiple assets you upload. Advantage+ Creative works on the single ad you've already designed: it applies automated modifications at serving time, then tests the modified version against your original to see which one Meta's system predicts (and confirms) performs better for a given viewer. The two features solve different problems, and both can run on the same ad at once.
The current list of Advantage+ creative enhancements

Meta's Business Help Center documentation on Creative Enhancements and enhancement guides that track the current feature set sort the enhancements into three groups.
Image-level enhancements:
- Visual touch-ups: auto-crops and expands images to fit more placements, so you don't have to resize manually for every aspect ratio.
- Brightness and contrast adjustment: Meta adjusts the image's lighting if its system predicts that will improve performance.
- Image expansion: stretches or extends an image to fill placements with different aspect ratios. This helps when you need a square product shot to fit a vertical Stories placement.
Text and message-level enhancements:
- Text overlays: places text you provided directly onto the creative when Meta's system predicts a performance gain.
- Enhance CTA: pairs relevant phrases with your call-to-action button.
- Text improvements: repositions text elements and can highlight the higher-performing phrases in your copy.
- Translate text: converts your ad copy into other languages for relevant audiences automatically.
- Relevant comments: shows genuine, relevant user comments beneath the ad.
- Sticker CTA: adds an AI-generated sticker call-to-action, mainly in Stories and video placements.
Format-level enhancements:
- Video touch-ups: the video version of visual touch-ups, auto-cropping and expanding video to fit placements.
- Generate background: creates a new background for catalog product images. This is useful when a product photo has a plain or inconsistent background.
- Adapt to placement: reformats creative to a native vertical (9:16) aspect ratio instead of showing a cropped or letterboxed version.
- Dynamic media: chooses image or video for each viewer based on predicted preference.
- Add catalog items: shows related product cards next to the primary creative.
- Dynamic description and site links: pulls catalog information into descriptions and adds up to 4 supplementary links.
- Dynamic overlays: puts price, discount or urgency elements directly onto the creative.
- 3D motion / parallax: gives static images a subtle motion effect in feed placements.
Key insight: Advantage+ Creative doesn't touch your core message or offer, only presentation. If an enhancement is hurting your ad, it's almost always a formatting or aesthetic mismatch, not a strategy problem.
When Advantage+ creative helps
Multi-placement campaigns are the clearest case. If your ad runs across Feed, Stories, and Reels at the same time, building a correctly cropped version for every aspect ratio by hand takes real production time. Visual touch-ups and adapt-to-placement do that automatically. Meta reports that Standard enhancements can produce, on average, a modest reduction in cost-per-result for campaigns optimizing toward link clicks, landing page views, and offsite conversions.
Catalog and Shopping ads with inconsistent product photography also benefit. Generate background and dynamic overlays are useful when you run a large product catalog with photos shot at different times by different vendors, with no shared visual standard. The auto-generated backgrounds even out that inconsistency at scale. Without them, you'd need a full re-shoot or a manual editing pass per SKU.
For multi-market campaigns, translate text removes a production step when you run the same creative concept across markets with different primary languages.
When advertisers turn specific enhancements off
Creative Enhancements are on by default, and the generative ones occasionally produce visible artifacts. Mobile-ads analyst Eric Seufert documented one where "Advantage+ Creative generated an ad for REI featuring a bike with two sets of handlebars," adding that "Creative Enhancements are turned on by default in Advantage+, so incidents like these are to be expected (we've seen similar cases with True Classic, Kirruna, and Lectric)" (@eric_seufert). Any single glitch is minor and often funny. On a hero product shot or a brand-signature image, though, it is exactly the kind of thing you want to catch before spend scales. That is why brand-sensitive accounts disable specific enhancements rather than trusting the defaults.
Text overlays are the first to check on ads with carefully designed copy placement. If your creative already has intentional text placement baked into the design (common for D2C brands with a strong visual identity), Meta's automated text overlay can duplicate or clash with the copy already on the image. It is one of the enhancements brand-sensitive accounts disable most often.
Generate background is risky on hero product shots. When the exact background of a flagship product image is part of the brand's visual signature, an AI-generated replacement can look subtly wrong: slightly off proportions, odd lighting. That is hard to catch in a quick review, but it reads as "off" to someone familiar with the brand.
3D motion/parallax works against static ads meant to look intentionally still. Some categories (luxury, minimalist DTC brands) use stillness as a deliberate aesthetic choice, and an added parallax effect undercuts it.
Enhance CTA and text improvements don't belong on regulated or compliance-sensitive copy. If your ad copy has been through legal or compliance review (common in finance, health, or supplement categories), letting an automated system rewrite or reposition approved language introduces risk that the marginal performance gain doesn't justify.
How to turn off individual enhancements
You can control enhancements at three levels, and the most specific one wins:
- At the ad level, the most granular: in Ads Manager, go to your ad's creative setup, open Advantage+ Creative or Optimize Media, and toggle each enhancement individually. The "All Optimizations" switch turns off everything at once for that ad.
- At the account level: in Business Settings under Advertising Settings, set default enhancement preferences that apply to new ad sets going forward. This helps if your team consistently wants certain enhancements off by default.
- At the catalog level, for Shopping ads only: in Catalog Management under Settings, you control auto-enhancement behavior for catalog-sourced creative.
Ad-level settings override account-level defaults. If you need an exception for one campaign, set it on the ad, not the account.
FAQ

What does Advantage+ creative actually change about my ad?
It applies automated presentation changes to a single ad you've already created: cropping, background generation, text overlays, translation, and similar formatting or aesthetic adjustments. Your message, offer, and core creative concept stay as they are.
Is Advantage+ creative the same as dynamic creative?
No. Dynamic Creative mixes and tests combinations of multiple assets you upload (several headlines, images, CTAs). Advantage+ Creative auto-enhances the presentation of one existing ad. They're separate features, and both can be active on the same campaign.
Does Advantage+ creative actually improve performance?
Meta reports that Standard enhancements give a modest average cost-per-result improvement for campaigns optimizing toward link clicks, landing page views, and offsite conversions. Results vary by category and creative. For brand-sensitive assets, test with specific enhancements turned off instead of assuming the average holds for your account.
How do I turn off a specific Advantage+ enhancement?
At the ad level, open the ad's creative setup in Ads Manager, go to Advantage+ Creative or Optimize Media, and toggle off the specific enhancement. The "All Optimizations" switch disables everything for that ad. Account-level defaults live in Business Settings, but ad-level toggles always override them.
Which Advantage+ enhancements do advertisers disable most often?
The two most commonly disabled are text overlays, when the design already places its copy on purpose, and generate background, on hero product shots where the exact background matters to the brand. 3D motion/parallax is also often switched off on ads meant to look deliberately still.
